## About the Team LabBase’s purpose is “Turning the power of research into the power of humanity.” The Product Discovery Team works across research, engineering, product, and design to develop new tools that accelerate the pace of research and make it more accessible to the world. Research is an area where change happens slowly. We aim to create products that not only accelerate research itself but also inspire more people to take part in it. Design plays a critical role in this mission. To make technology truly intuitive and accessible, we need to build experiences that are simple yet deeply rich. We’re looking for a Product Designer to help us create products that are easy to use, beautiful, and expand the possibilities for researchers. As an early team member, you’ll have a major role in shaping our product direction and design culture. ## About This Role In this role, you’ll work in a small, cross-functional team, collaborating closely with engineers and product managers to design the product experiences of today and tomorrow. You’ll be responsible for visual and UX design across our suite of products for researchers and technologists. As technology, product, and design continue to evolve, you’ll help shape the direction of what comes next. This position is based in our Tokyo office. We operate in a hybrid work style, but we ask that you live within commuting distance to the office. ## What You’ll Do Design LabBase products and contribute to overall product strategy Lead design from early concepts to high-fidelity prototypes and polished visuals, releasing high-quality products and improvements Collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and design teams to shape both long-term strategy and short-term tactics Conduct user research to deepen user understanding and feed insights back into product improvements Contribute to and evolve our design system Help foster a strong design culture and support the growth of the team ## Who We’re Looking For A strong portfolio that demonstrates excellence in UX, UI, and interaction design, with a high bar for quality and craft Someone who enjoys tackling complex interaction design challenges Strong communication and storytelling skills that create impact A person who finds fulfillment in turning ambiguity into clear, actionable vision Deep interest in defining what “products for research” can and should be, with active engagement in research processes ## Required Skills - 4+ years of experience designing and releasing large-scale software products ## Preferred Skills - Experience in front-end development (advanced skill level not required) - Understanding of design tokens and how they integrate into front-end development - Experience designing or contributing to a design system
