5007_TIER IV Internship

TIER IV uses Autoware, a widely used open source autonomous driving software stack, to provide a wide range of applications, solutions and services related to autonomous driving. The intern can experience the research and development of cutting edge autonomous driving systems with the aim of expanding the technological capabilities of the Autoware project. The intern will: ・Develop technology to solve actual problems in cooperation with engineers in various technical fields ・Investigate, verify and extend cutting edge research papers on autonomous driving technology ・Contribute autonomous driving technology to OSS [Summary of support] ・JPY2,000-3,000 / hour ・Period: 2 months ・Location: Tokyo, Japan ・Visa application ・Travel fee (air ticket + accommodation) [Application documents] ・Resume ・Sharable GitHub, LinkedIn, and research related blog links ・Research material [Screening flow] ・Document review and interview *Typically there will be one interview. ・Notification of final results: Approximately 2 months after submission [Remarks] ・It could take 3 months to get a visa ・The application based on the foreign exchange law could be necessary

1： In the field of autonomous driving or robotics in general the applicant must have the experience of one or more of the following: ・Perception: camera, LiDAR or RADAR sensing, filtering, processing and sensor fusion; object detection, multi-object tracking, behavior prediction ・Localization/Mapping: SLAM or Bayesian filtering based localization ・Planning: route planning, high level behavior planning, trajectory planning ・Control: vehicle motion control, optimal control theory, robust control, system identification ・Hardware acceleration, many-core, ASIC/SoC, System software, containers, virtual machines, real-time systems, embedded systems 2： Proficiency in programming with one or more of ・C++, ROS/ROS2, Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Jupyter, Matlab 3： Language proficiency: ・Research working language is English: applicants should be proficient in reading, writing and speaking in English on technical topics. ・Researchers work closely with the development team, therefore the ability to discuss technical matters in English is highly regarded.

・Record of contribution to OSS ・Experience developing self-driving cars or autonomous mobile robots ・Knowledge of machine learning theory and applications ・Publication record in relevant disciplines OR demonstrable industrial research experience proposing and delivering novel contributions (please include a list of selected publications highlighting high impact works, academic awards, or equivalent industrial research achievements) ・Demonstrated theoretical and working knowledge of relevant algorithms and computational frameworks ・Experience in Linux and embedded systems ・Japanese language proficiency
