# Recruitment Background
Sagri is developing carbon credit and MRV services by combining digital soil mapping, satellite data, and process-based models to quantify soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions.
To issue carbon credits, it is essential to demonstrate increases in soil organic carbon stocks and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in a scientifically robust and verifiable manner that can be accepted by certification bodies. To achieve this, the Sagri Applied Science team is building methodologies that integrate satellite observations with user input collected through apps for farmers and supply chains.
We are seeking Research Scientists who are excited to contribute to this mission and help create scientifically sound, scalable solutions for carbon credit generation and MRV.
# Mission of the Position
Our apps are designed to collect only minimal input data from end users, such as farmers and supply chain stakeholders, while still enabling robust estimation of soil organic carbon stocks and greenhouse gas emissions.
As a Research Scientist, you will develop digital solutions that power these applications, including:
• accurate soil organic carbon prediction models,
• tillage and cover crop detection models,
• crop–soil agroecological models for estimating SOC dynamics and GHG emissions.
These technologies will support carbon credit generation and MRV services, ultimately contributing to climate change mitigation.
We welcome candidates with strong expertise in geospatial data science and machine learning for digital soil mapping, as well as a solid foundation in agricultural science, especially agronomy and soil science. Experience in calibrating and validating process-based models is highly valued. A PhD in agricultural science or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
# Job Description
◆Specific Job Responsibilities
• Collaborate with local field teams in Japan and internationally, primarily overseas, to collect data on crops, soils, and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Organize, clean, and preprocess datasets for machine learning model training and process-based model calibration.
• Develop, calibrate, and validate models related to soil organic carbon, greenhouse gas emissions, tillage practices, and cover crop detection.
• Contribute to proof-of-concept projects, taking responsibility for data collection, analysis, scientific writing, and intellectual property development under the guidance of senior researchers or mentors.
• Support the scientific development of methodologies for carbon credit generation and MRV services.
