Mathematical Optimization Engineer

We are looking for data scientists who are interested in the data from a wide range of industries served by Mitsubishi Corporation! MC Digital is a technology company founded in September 2019 with an investment from Mitsubishi Corporation. In addition to the provision of services to the Mitsubishi Corporation Group companies, we are working to develop new services and products that can be extended to companies outside the Group. Mathematical optimization engineers translate the issues faced by on-site workers in various industries into optimization problems, such as optimization of delivery routes and job schedules, and create and implement algorithms to solve the issues effectively. The work involves formulating optimization problems and studying and implementing algorithms in the main. In addition, you will be able to develop your skills as a data scientist and a software engineer while you work. [Job Description] ･Proposing methods and policies for recognizing and modeling customer’s operational issues as optimization problems that can be implemented realistically ･Designing optimization algorithms using heuristic methods and mathematical programming solvers ･Implementing optimization algorithms in C++ and Python ･Evaluating and improving the applicability of optimization algorithms using real customer data ･Developing tools for visualization of data and results of running the implemented programs ･Designing and developing WebAPI and data platforms to run the developed solutions [Frameworks and Tools to Be Used] ･Machine learning: PyTorch, LightGBM, Optuna, and other tools ･Reinforcement learning: Stable Baselines ･Improving machine learning efficiency: Luigi, Kubeflow Pipelines ･Mathematical optimization: OR Tools and Gurobi ･Google Cloud platforms: Google Compute Engine, Google Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Vertex AI, and other applications ･Collaboration tools: Slack, Github, Confluence, and other software

[Required Skills] ･Motivation to solve industry issues using your optimization techniques ･Attitude to work collaboratively with customers to solve problems ･Basic knowledge of optimization ･Certain experience in implementing optimization programs in C++ and Python

[Preferred Skills] ･Willingness to continuously participate in competitions in the fields of algorithm, heuristics and data science, such as AtCoder and Kaggle, with a desire for further improvement, or experience in winning top prizes ･Experience in creating and implementing optimization algorithms using mathematical programming solvers, such as Gurobi Optimizer ･Expert knowledge and experience in researching and working on optimization ･Experience in proposing, creating and improving optimization algorithms through exchanging opinions and having discussion with customers ･Experience in developing optimization products and operating production environments ･Basic skills and experience in software team development ･Experience in sharing technology externally by submitting papers, speaking at conferences, and writing technical blogs
